Today I will briefly share with you the requirements of the PVC industry on pigments and the matters to be noted when choosing pigments.
PVC application overview
According to the hardness of PVC products, it is divided into hard PVC and soft PVC. The main products of hard PVC are PVC profile, plastic steel doors and windows and PVC blinds, etc., mainly for outdoor applications.
Outdoor use requires the pigment to be weatherable and yellowing resistant. Therefore, the only use of pigments is acid-resistant ultramarine blue, and the coloring of colors generally does not use pigments directly, but chooses processed products of pigments, such as color chip pastes. Color masterbatch and toner are used in PVC blinds.
The application forms of pigments in soft PVC are divided into many types. The conventional ones are: color paste, color cake, color chip, color paste, and particle extraction. Next, we will explain this by industry and application.
1. PVC calendering
The downstream applications are mainly artificial leather. The pigments that are directly used are ultramarine and fluorescent pigments, and other colors are colored by PVC color cakes. The main requirement for pigments is migration and dispersion, while ultramarine and fluorescent are both well-dispersed pigments, and other pigments can be applied after being dispersed.
2. PVC color paste
The downstream is mainly used for the Disu trademark, etc. The main requirement for the pigment is migration. Since the processing method is three-roller dispersion, the pigment does not have high requirements for dispersibility.
